cerebro-mente-comportamientoOn Wednesday 24 February, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) presented on its Youtube channel the White Paper Scientific Challenges 2030, which channels the CSIC’s scientific advances towards the understanding and resolution of major global challenges.

From IATA-CSIC, Prof. Yolanda Sanz and Dr. Ana Agustí together with Dr. Lopez-Atalaya from IN-CSIC, have actively participated in the creation of one of the sections of the White Paper Scientific Challenges 2030 divided into 14 themes. Their participation has been in volume 5 on “BRAIN, MIND & BEHAVIOUR“, focusing on the role of the intestinal microbiota and diet play in the communication between the mind and the rest of the human organism and its physiological functions and, therefore, in mental and physical health. This chapter reviews current knowledge and outlines the main scientific challenges to be addressed in the coming years in order to transform knowledge into new tools for early diagnosis and prevention of pathologies associated with changes in lifestyle and ageing, with the ultimate aim of improving the citizens’ quality of life.

About the CSIC White Paper
The White Paper Scientific Challenges CSIC 2030 presents the CSIC’s reflections on 14 strategic themes chosen for their scientific impact and social importance. Fundamental questions are analysed, including the future exploration of the universe, artificial intelligence, ocean research, the development of clean, safe and efficient energy and understanding how the brain works. The paper addresses complex challenges in areas such as health and social sciences and the selected strategic themes cover both basic issues and potential applications of knowledge.

The 14 White Papers, designed as a reference for the development of the institution’s scientific strategy, provide an insight into the research currently being carried out at CSIC centres, and at the same time provide a global vision of what the scientific priorities will be over the next decade,” explained Victoria Moreno-Arribas, CSIC’s Deputy Vice-President for Scientific and Technical Areas.
