In the context of a European initiative ‘EIT-FOOD‘, our research group, and especially Marta Olivares and Rebeca Liébana, have participated in the development of a MOOC (Massive On-line Open Course) together with collaborators from the University of Turin (Italy), Microbion (Italy), Quadram institute (UK) and the University of Reading (UK).
The course, entitled ‘The Human Microbiome‘, lasts three weeks and is available for free on the FutureLearn platform until 30 November 2021. In this course you will learn how a healthy microbiome can fight disease.
Who is the course addressed to?
This course is for anyone interested in topics related to the human microbiome, how food can influence its functions and how this impacts on human health.
The microbiome (the microorganisms living in the human body and their genes) can have a huge impact on human health. It is therefore vital to understand the complexity of the microbiome and how it can influence disease and wellbeing.
During the course, you will embark on a fascinating journey inside the human body, all the way to the gut, where the ecology and functions of the human gut microbiome will be explained. You will have the opportunity to explore how the microbiome changes throughout life, reflect on the role of diet in modulating it, and learn about its functions in the gastrointestinal tract and its impact on health.
